Yesterday, a new online campaign launched, urging national governments to consider women when choosing new EU Commisionners. (You can check out the current Commission here)
Emilie Turunen, a Danish left-wing MEP and a member of the Green group in the Parliament, said that there had been much progress in improving gender balance and the rights of women in recent years, but that the nominations for the next Commission were a “setback for Europe”. She also said that the Greens were considering what steps to take when MEPs are presented with the nominees and that José Manuel Barroso, the president of the Commission, should do more than merely call for more women to be nominated.
