1. Shazam
I’m sure you’ve heard about this one. With Shazam, you just hold your iPhone near a speaker/radio, and it shows you which artist/song is playing. Doesn’t work every time though, but I got the free version so I’m not complaining.
My number one news resource about American (mostly left-wing) politics. It’s free, it has a simple but robust interface, and covers a broad range of topics (including Green, Media, Business and Technology).
3. Google Maps
This app has proven useful on more than one occasion. Great for quickly locating yourself in a city. Not really recommended for GPS-based driving instructions.
4. Lux Touch
Risk – the game – on the iPhone. Free, nice graphics, fast gameplay.
5. Twitterific
My Twitter client. Can do everything I would want to do on the iPhone. You can manage multiple accounts, upload photos and it’s ad-supported.
6. Facebook
Thanks to the latest update, you can now manage Facebook pages from your iPhone. Comes in handy when you want to share a quick update. Easy-to-use interface.
7. Gmail
Not really an app, but the webinterface for Gmail on the iPhone is really well designed. I use it instead of the standard Mail app and it works great. Fast loading times.
8. Light
Basically, it turns your iPhone in a handy flashlight. Great for quickly illuminating a keyhole. Free download.
9. Time Mobile
A free news app, but I’d be more than willing to pay for this one. You can read full articles, watch photos or videos. If features a nice “Cover Flow”-like browsing experience.
10. geoDefense
Very addictive tower defense game with some original graphics. A game can last from less than one minute to 10 minutes or more. They have a free version, so you can give it a try before buying the full game.
