“Radical” Global Citizenship

Interesting article on conducting US foreign affairs under the frame of global citizenship.

Part of global citizenship means spending time and resources that are traditionally reserved for domestic policy on other nations; namely, education and direct citizen access to senior officials.

One example of direct access to a senior official was this interview with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Instead of sitting down with a select group of Egyptians, the questions came from Masrawy.com, an Egyptian social network. Questions were selected by the Masrawy team and were asked to Hillary Clinton without screening them beforehand. Masrawy was asked to select the toughest questions:

 
 
To me, living in a region where regional nationalists dominate the political sphere, the concept of global citizenship feels refreshing. I can only hope our own policy makers will someday follow this path.
